Q: What is the Dawgsled.com Commissioner of Bracketology?
A: A web-based March Madness Pool Management program.

Q: Can I sign up and play?
A: Yes. This is not a private pool, it's a free (ad-, spam- and spyware-free) pool management program. You can use it to create your own private pools, or you can just sign in, fill out a bracket, and play against the rest of the world.

Q: Can I invite my friends to play?
A: That's the idea.

Q: Why would I want to host my pool here, when the "major" sites (like ESPN and Sportsline) offer the same thing?
A: Actually, this site leaves the "major" sites in the dust with all of the cool extra features that it offers. While this site offers the standard pool management and automated scoring that the big boys offer, the main featues which set this site apart from the competition include:
  • Upset Bonuses. This site offers a robust, fully customizable Upset bonus system. You can configure your pool to allow varying degrees of bonus points for successfully picking upsets in any of the first four rounds of the tournament.
  • Multiple Bracket support.  If you are participating in multiple Groups on this site, you can now fill out as many as 50 Brackets per account.
  • Competition between fans of different schools. When you create your account, you will get to choose which Division 1 school you wish to represent. Then, your Main Bracket will be "averaged in" with all of the other Main Brackets filled out by the fellow supporters of your favorite school. This average will then go in against the averages from all other qualifying schools to determine your school's rank in the "School Standings" competition.
  • NO ANNOYING ADVERTISEMENTS, POP-UPS, OR OTHER NAGGING ANNOYANCES FROM 3RD PARTIES. Period. Ever.
Q: Do I have to create a pool to use this site?
A: No. While you certainly can use this site for the purposes of creating a pool, you do not have to create one yourself in order to be able to fill out a bracket and compete. Everyone who fills out a bracket gets to compete in the Worldwide Standings competition and represent their favorite school in the School Standings.

Q: Can I fill out more than one bracket?
A: YES!  In 2007, you can fill out up to 50 different Brackets per account. That's up from 10 per account in 2006 and only 1 per account in 2005.

Q: Does this site have any features that support entry fees?
A: No. "Officially", the author of this site does not condone gambling.

Q: Why do I have to use a valid email address?
A: To preserve the integrity of the contest. Requiring everyone to use a valid Email address will help to prevent flooding (i.e. creating lots of bogus accounts) and spoofing.

Q: If I create an account, who will have access to personal information like my email address or password?
A: Nobody. Your right to privacy is of paramount importance to the author of this program. This site is hosted on the author's personal web space, meaning that it's not affiliated with any corporate entities in any way. The passwords on this site are encrypted using a robust one-way encryption algorithm. In English, that means that your password is scrambled to the point that even the author can never access it. You can allow your email address to be seen by other logged-in users of this program if you choose to, but no third parties will ever have access to your information.

Q: I've read this FAQ, but I've never actually been to the site. What's the URL?
A: http://www.dawgsled.com/marchmadness
